Description
The first lines of Holy Scripture bring us face to face with the truth of the Creation: "God, at the beginning of time, created heaven and earth." When we were children, we accepted the wonder that God made all things from nothingness with the inherent trust and simplicity of the young. However, because this non-questioning trust is insufficient proof for many adults in this technological age, Trophime Mouiren outlines the teachings of the Church in this volume on the subject of Creation.

The foundation upon which all our beliefs are built, the Creation has been mentioned in various books of the Old and New Testaments, and explicitly defined in the Councils of the Church. However, men only have full realization of the truths of the Church when they apply the definitions of these truths in their own lives. To know that God is the Creator is to know that we are His creatures. The author explains the responsibility which this knowledge imposes upon us.

The author also deals in detail with topics such as the relation of the Second and Third Persons of the Trinity to the Creation, the necessity of the Creative Act, the Wisdom and Goodness of God in creating, and the Creation of the New Man through the Incarnation.

Trophime Mouiren was born in Barbentane, France in 1921. Shortly after his ordination in 1944, he enlisted in the service and became the youngest chaplain in the French First Army. He studied at the Faculte des lettres d'Aix-Marseille where he studied under Jacques Poliard and Gaston Berger. Since 1955, Father Mouiren has been a cure of Saint-Etienne-du-Gres and head of the philosophy department of a girls' school.

The Creation was translated from the French by SJ Tester.
