Description
The present work, a translation and adaptation of a highly-praised book first published in France, is an inspiring portrait of the Virgin Mary (in Hebrew, Miriam), the greatest woman who ever lived.
Using an approach that is fresh and historically reliable, Melanie Marnas, a deeply religious writer who is plainly a client at the Virgin's shrine, provides a wealth of colorful detail regarding the contemporary Jewish life, and vividly recreates the political and social framework within which the sacred drama of the Blessed Mother's life unfolded. Beginning with King Herod and the Palestinian milieu of his day, the fast-paced narrative skillfully brings into relief the principal events in the sublime career of the young Jewish maiden who became the Mother of God: the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Birth of Our Lord, the flight into Egypt, the return to Nazareth. The last four chapters are the work of the translator, the Reverend Sidney A. Raemers, a well-known writer in his own right. They were added to round out the story and to bring the life of the Virgin to its glorious ending: her Assumption into heaven.
My Lady Miriam is a book which will be enjoyed by every class of reader - by the priest, the nun, the lay person. It is, in the words of the Foreword, "a biography which, if read with faith and devotion, will do much to revive the forgotten ideals and virtues of true Christian womanhood."
