Description
It was May 29, 1954. The words of canonization were spoken, the bells pealed, and the crowds in St. Peter's Square in Rome knelt to pray to Pius X, the farm boy who had become a Saint of our times.

Bepi Sarto, son of a postman, lived in a little Italian village. The family was poor, so when Bepi walked along the country road to school, he carried his shoes on his shoulder to save them from wearing out. Even when he was a boy he wanted to be a priest, but he never dreamed that he would one day rule the Church of Christ as Pope Pius X. As a young curate and then as a country pastor, he was beloved by his people because he knew and shared their simple life. He became the fatherly bishop, whose door was always open to the poor; the red-robed Cardinal of Venice; the saintly Pope who so humbly accepted the Throne of St. Peter.

This is the story of the "Children's Pope," the Pope of the Holy Eucharist, who tried to "restore all things in Christ" and thus became a Saint.
