Description
"We are convinced," said Pope Paul on February 2, 1966, "that devotion to Our Lady is essentially joined with devotion to Christ, that it assures a firmness of conviction to faith in Him and to His Church which, without devotion to Mary, would be impoverished and compromised."

True Devotion to Mary, by St. Louis de Montfort, is basically no more than a development of this statement of Pope Paul. It is a universally recognized classic of devotional writing, composed some 250 years ago by a traveling missionary who knew from the Gospel and from his own experience that the way to Christ is through Our Lady.

The author, St. Louis de Montfort, was canonised on July 20, 1947. On this occasion, Pope Pius XII characterized the new Saint as "the guide who leads you to Mary and from Mary to Jesus. All the Saints have assuredly been great servants of Mary, and all have led souls to her; he (St. Louis Mary) is incontestably one of those who has worked most ardently and most effectively to make her loved and served." Speaking of the Saint's doctrine, the Holy Father said: "He strenuously opposed all who popularized erroneous pious practices or who upheld doctrine contrary to the teaching of the Church. As a result of his labors the integrity of Catholic doctrine was safeguarded and the Catholic Faith shone not only in the minds of men but also influenced both their private and public life."
