Description
Once in a lifetime there appears a book of great beauty, wisdom, and superb aptness to meet the spiritual needs of a particular age. Such is Dom Chautard's book.

Here is an enduring treasure of spiritual meditations and practical suggestions, to show how active people can elevate their daily work to a supernatural level by the enrichment of their interior lives.

The zeal, clarity, and apostolic fervor with which this brilliant Cistercian abbot presents his timely theme has resulted in universal critical acclaim. Recommended and used by Popes, Cardinals, religious and laymen, The Soul of the Apostolate is a modern spiritual classic.

"I warmly recommend this book to you as I value it very highly, and have myself made it my bedside book." Pope Pius X.

Born amid the French Alps in 1858, Jean-Baptiste Chautard left the University of Marseilles, at the age of 19, to enter the Cistercian abbey of Aiguebelle. His plans and prayers soon rescued that community from financial ruin.

Chosen abbot of Septfons, Dom Chautard was thrust into the Church's fight against modernism and kindred heresies. During World War One, by heroic efforts he saved many Trappist monasteries; retired by ill health, he died in 1935.

To his perpetual plea for combining the contemplative with the active life, he devoted a full measure of charity, industry, and eloquence.
