Description
Father Gerhard Fittkau was appointed pastor of a small rural parish in Suessenberg, East Prussia in the fall of 1944, just in time to face the Soviet army as it rolled on its way to Berlin raping, looting, pillaging, and desecrating churches along the way. Arriving just in time to witness a disaster which he could not avert, Father Fittkau was sent to the notorious gulag at Vorkuta to experience one of the great evils of this century and to triumph over it according to God's unfathomable plan.

This is a work not dated by its framework of historical events. On the contrary, it is confirmed by time as a classic because of its eternal theme. Father Fittkau demonstrates that the darker the world becomes the more the Christian soul can shine! As we plummet ever deeper into this neopagan era with its own barbarisms and persecutions, we can take heart and draw strength from Father Fittkau's grace-filled example.
