Almost a century has passed since the first edition of Cardinal Wiseman's lectures on the Blessed Eucharist, which he had delivered as Rector of the English College in Rome, was published in 1836 in response to many requests. They have been in constant use as a textbook in seminaries ever since, and the book is one of the recognised classics of Catholic literature in modern England. Dr. Barton, who is Professor of Sacred Scripture at St. Edmund's College, Ware, which was the centre of so much of Cardinal Wiseman's hopes after he came to Westminster as the first Cardinal Archbishop, has now prepared a new edition embodying all the results of more recent researches, with additional notes and appendices.
