Description
One of the world's best known dignitaries of the Catholic Church, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, comments in the "Ratzinger Report" that "One of the signs of our times is that announcements of 'Marian Apparitions' are multiplying all over the world."

Since the early 1980's, there have been reports of Marian apparitions from every corner of the globe, and local Catholic Church authorities in San Nicolas, Argentina; in Cupapa, Nicaragua; in Akita, Japan; in Finca Betania in Venazuela; in Kibeho in Rwanda and Naju in Korea, to mention but some, have already indicated approval of the remarkable events reported.

In Ireland, since the mid 1980's, there have been similar reports from every province in the country, and som e places of reported apparitions and visions, such as the grotto at Mount Melleray in Co. Waterford, are already well known. In early 1988, a Co. Mayo housewife in her thirties, Mrs. Christina Gallagher, made known that the Blessed Virgin had been appearing to her since January 21 of that year, and she expressed an anxiety about spreading widely details of the messages she was receiving, treating them with great seriousness. The apparitions and visions of both Jesus and Our Lady, and the many locutions and other astonishing events involving Mrs. Gallagher, have been ongoing since then, and her spiritual director has described how edified and enriched he has been in his priesthood, through dealing with the visionary, and indicated his belief in the apparitions and messages.

In 1991, while researching for articles in "Ireland's Eye" magazine, the author of this book first met Christina Gallagher and was very favorably impressed, on hearing at first hand, details of the apparitions, messages and other happenings. The honesty and sincerity, openness, general demeanor and spirituality of the Co. Mayo housewife, add considerably to the credibility of the message she seeks to propagate.

A series of articles written in "Ireland's Eye" over a number of months in 1991 and early 1992, about the events and messages involving Christina Gallagher, generated widespread interest, and the writer has acceded to many requests to produce the material already published in book form. However, a sizeable amount of the material in this book has not appeared in print previously, and a special effort has been made to allow Mrs. Gallagher to relate her own story, and to interpret what she has received. The book also contains all of the public messages which Mrs. Gallagher has received up to January 1992, and details from letters to her spiritual director. The letters are especially edifying, and help in presenting more fully the visionary's story.

This publication is not intended as a definitive or comprehensive work on the messages of repentance, prayer, penance and of God's Mercy, more widely available to all interested and to provide a context within which all can be more easily understood, and acted upon.
