Critical Comments

"I have long been familiar with the writings and poetry of Professor E Merrill Root . . . . His essays equal Emerson's in profundity and truth, and he is the heir of Thoreau. There is much in his poetry which reminds one of Thomas Hardy and William Blake, with sometimes an overtones of Browning. And there are lines that equal Shakespeare." Taylor Caldwell

"Merrill Root says more worth saying, with more wisdom and beauty and just plain goodness, than almost anyone I ever heard of. He is a great man who makes us all even prouder that, like him, we too are Americans." Walter Brennan

"In clarity of expression E Merrill Root is a genius. His works can be as lusty as those of Browning. And he can orchestrate his eternal values to heights worthy of Wagner's Pilgrims' Chorus. He writes with complete dedication to God and Country; here is a man!" Brig. Gen. Bonner Fellers (USA, Ret.)

"The splendor of E Merrill Root - as a man and as an American patriot - gleams in the words he puts on paper. Unquestionably, the beauty and meaning of Professor Root's verse and prose will remain an invaluable part of the heritage which our age leaves for succeeding generations." Dan Smoot

"Professor Root is someone very special. He is a great man who loves our country and understands its people and purpose. He is the Poet Laureate of the real America that is simple and decent and good, and I recommend his book to everyone who would know why so many growing millions of us have dared, even now, to Stand up for America." Hon. George C Wallace
