Description
Beginning with the conversion of the Roman Emperor Constantine in AD 313, and covering the exciting story of barbarian invasions and pagan Roman decadence, The Dawn of the Middle Ages treats the triumph of Christianity in Europe which followed the collapse and destruction of the Roman Empire.

During the dramatic fight against powerful heretics who took advantage of the chaotic times to promulgate their divergent ideas as the truth, this period was important in Church history as the time when the doctrines and tenets of Christianity were being created in the councils of theologians. A portion of the book explains the various heresies of the times.

The last portion of this volume is concerned with the Carolingian Renaissance and the advent of the Emperor Charlemagne who was the inspiration of that age.

The volume ends with the fall of the Carolingian Empire and the general moral and political decadence that men called the dark ages and which we now know to have been the prelude to the era of medieval Christendom.
