About the Author

Born in London on 30 June 1845 of Protestant parents, Mother Mary Loyola was a convert to the Catholic Faith. She had a Catholic uncle who adopted her when her parents died. She was baptized into the Catholic Church in 1855 and was educated at The Bar Convent where she herself became a religious. She entered into noviceship May of 1866 and October of 1869 professed.

Mother Mary Loyola was the Head Mistress of the Day School in 1880 and the Boarding School in 1891. From 1883-1891, she was the Superior and from 1897-1922, the Mistress of Novices. She had a long severe illness and died in 1930 at the age of 85. She is buried at the Bar Convent cemetery.

Throughout her religious life, even during the time of her severe illness, she wrote spiritual books, mostly for children. Her books were so popular they were translated into all the common European languages, as well as Bulgarian and Japanese.

"There is no reason to doubt that those who use this little book . . . will find it both immediately and permanently help as an aid to their devotion in Holy Communion." - Herbert Thurston, SJ

"The ordinary cares of life and personal situations are sometimes hard to set aside long enough to give quality time to our relationship with Our Lord. Mother Mary Loyola offers us meditations to use before and after we receive Jesus in Holy Communion. This allows and helps us to keep our mind and heart absorbed in Jesus Christ during that precious time surrounding our reception of Him." - Janet Marie Hartley, Editorial Editor
